Mitsugoro BANDO, Kabuki actor and BANDO Iemoto, will display the magic of Nihon Buyo, and young leading players the art of Traditional Japanese Music. Both genres have mostly developed in Edo era (17. – 19.C.).

    Kabuki actor Mitsugoro BANDO, the 10th actor to hold the honorable name in the family’s 250-year tradition, and the Iemoto of the clan known for producing leading Kabuki dancers, will discuss the charm of Edo chic that lives on in dance and music. In interview format with the authority on traditional arts, Shizuo YAMAKAWA.

Mitsugoro BANDO on Nihon Buyo
  • Tips on how to fully appreciate Nihon Buyo (dance). Mitsugoro BANDO gives pointers on buyo (dance).

    In the Edo period Kabuki buyo, a form of Nihon buyo, developed alongside Kabuki.
    Simply watching it may be enjoyable enough, but learning the mechanisms and highlights is bound to satisfy one all the more. The current Bando Iemoto Mitsugoro will give a lecture on the basics of Nihon buyo, the movements, dressing and make up of Kabuki buyo, with actual demonstrative performances by young actors and dancers.
    Detailed explanations of the verses and movements from the signature Bando masterpiece, the eccentric kiyomoto Ryūsei, by none other than the Iemoto Mitsugoro himself should prove irresistible.
