Program

A Thrilling World of Traditional Performing ArtsFinished.

Objects from everyday life create traditional music

Traditional musical instruments made out of household items!?
The audience is invited to a house on the stage, and will be shown how the everyday household items can turn into traditional musical instruments.
Several unique performances will be given by guest artists. They include folklore puppetry called Hachioji Kuruma Ningyo presented by Takafumi Tanaka, a Japanese traditional music journal editor, American duo players of Koto and Shakuhachi called Curt & Bruce, and a female ensemble of Japanese and western musical instruments, the Sakura Project.
The participants are welcome to get thrilling hands-on experience in manipulating the Kuruma Ningyo and in playing various Japanese traditional musical instruments. There will also be a display of the famous “Space Koto” which was played by astronaut Naoko Yamazaki on the international space station.
